Those
of you who have been keeping up with Restaurant of the Month Club Specials,
will remember that T for 2 was Restaurant of the Month this past July.
So, why then are we featuring the same restaurant 6 months later?
The answer begins with breakfast. Several weeks after its debut, “T for
2’s Diner,” the new breakfast menu, is fast becoming a popular incentive
for late risers to wake up just a little bit earlier (between the hours
of 7:30am-12 noon). Those who do are rewarded with a truly delightful dining
experience to start the day.
Letting
to T for 2 during the morning hours is no small feat for me, but I found
it was well worth the effort. The menu offers a variety of breakfast specials
that range in price from $3.95-$5.95 and features perennial breakfast favorites
like French Toast, Pancakes, Eggs (served any way you like them), Shukshuka,
and Sandwiches. (Shukshuka, a fried egg Israeli style made with tomato,
pepper, and onion qualifies as a perennial favorite for Israelis.) The
food is, as you would expect, elegantly and artistically arranged, very
fresh and very appetizing. The pancakes (two in a portion) are large, light,
fluffy, and not the least bit dry or greasy. Sandwiches come on the bread
of your choice or on three half bagels. I opted for the bagel halves and
ordered three different toppings: tuna fish, egg salad, and a mushroom
omelet. The sandwich breakfast permitted me to sample three different dishes
in one, so that what could have been a typical breakfast or brunch had
variety and added interest instead. The sandwiches are served open with
artistic florish and a choice between salad and fruit garnish or fruit
salad. Colorful as they are tasty, these sandwiches offer a dish that is
anything but boring. Why limit your choices of what to eat when you can
have it all? Other breakfast offerings include cereal, fresh squeezed juice,
fruit shakes, and yogurt with fruit. End your perfect breakfast with dessert.
Blueberry cheesecake was my choice, although I could have chosen Danish,
fruit cup and other pastry. It was light and creamy and just hit the spot
with a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee.
As
satisfying as the food is, it is the total dining experience that will
make you want to linger at T for 2 in the morning. Romantic and sophisticated
at night, T for 2 becomes a delightful getaway during the daytime. The
pace is calm and serene; the atmosphere is relaxed while elegant. Brooklyn
fades from memory and you could easily imagine yourself sitting in a quaint
French café. What a refreshing way to start the day!
The
triumph of breakfast continues with fine offerings for Lunch and dinner.
Lunch is a pasta celebration with all-you-can-eat pasta of your choice
for $10.95. Pasta toppings include Vodka, Roasted Mixed Vegetables, Marinara,
Tomato, Alfredo, or Garlic & oil. Salad and garlic bread are included.
Other lunch possibilities include various salads, soups, and specialties
such as Eggplant Parmigian, Veggie Burger, and even a sushi Roll Combo
(with 3 regular rolls) from the sushi bar. The soup selection has been
expanded and now features a different creamed soup each day. I recently
sampled the Cream of Potato and Leek soup. The soup had a light, creamy
consistency with small chunks of potato and leeks. It’s seasoning was balanced
and yielded a satisfying soup that was brimming with delicious flavor.
The
dinner menu has been expanded too. It is now twice its former size with
many exciting new dishes. Of these, I sampled two, the Tuna Kebob (not
listed on the menu but a frequent daily special), and the Filet of Sole
Brochetta (baked Sole topped with diced fresh tomatoes and basil). The
Sole will appeal to many who are watching their caloric intake as it is
light and made with fresh and simple ingredients. It is the Tuna Kebob,
however, that will really knock your socks off. The tuna chunks are marinated
over night and then grilled on skewers along with peppers and mushrooms.
It is served in a light Teriyaki sauce with radicchio, endive, and assorted
vegetables. As Steve, T for 2’s chef and the creator of this delectable
dish, notes, the recipe is fairly complicated and requires a lengthy preparation.
For that reason it is difficult to offer as a regular menu item.
The dish was a wonderful mix of flavors and textures, the grilled vegetables
contrasting with the sautéed, the meaty chunks of tuna sprinkled
with the savory sauce. Tuna Kebob was so good that it instantly achieved
my “most favored entrée at T for 2” status! To enjoy this
really special dish, remember to ask for it; you won’t see it on the menu.
Other new entrees to try include Tuna Picata (Grilled Tuna in a Caper sauce
with lemon), Red Snapper Bianco (with white wine and garlic butter), and
Halibut Salsa Verde (pan seared and topped with capers).
With
the new expanded hours of operation and the variety of menu options, T
for 2 offers a stress free vacation for your mind and a bit of heaven for
your taste buds at each mealtime. The mahogany and cream-colored décor
is both soothing and aesthetically pleasing. Cozy with seating for fifty,
T for 2 provides a warm and friendly environment that is eminently suitable
for any occasion. Allison, T for 2’s gracious proprietor, makes sure that
every detail is attended to and greets diners as if they are her extended
family. Intolerant of poor service or an inconsiderate attitude, she exacts
uncompromising performance from her staff and takes it as a personal affront
if they fail her customers.
One
hallmark of a truly good restaurant is that it continually strives to improve,
offering new dishes, improving its service, and adjusting to suit the needs
of its clientele. Since opening last year, T for 2 has done all that and
more. It has developed into a warm and inviting haven for anyone who enjoys
good food in a thoroughly enjoyable setting. Find any excuse to go or go
without one, but do try T for 2. It is really a wonderful restaurant that
is, fortunately for us, kosher! |
